The Lake Host Program at Lake Armington is part of a state-wide prevention initiative through NH Lakes to combat the spread of aquatic invasive species, including milfoil and Zebra mussel.
Invasive species cling to boats, kayaks/canoes and gear and travel from contaminated lakes and rivers to infest clean bodies of water like Lake Armington.
Once invasive species take hold, they grow rapidly and permanently damage a formerly pristine body of water. Eradication is very costly, and usually on-going. Prevention is the key.
WHAT LAKE HOSTS DO
Lake Hosts greet boaters at the public boat launch and provide courtesy inspections for boats, boat trailers, and other watercraft and gear. They are on duty at Lake Armington at peak times from Memorial Day to Columbus Day weekends.
WHAT BOATERS CAN DO
Boaters can examine their boat, boat trailer and live-wells, kayak/canoe or rowboat and sports gear for aquatic invasive species before launching into the lake. Information on identifying invasive species is online and at the Lake Armington boat launch.

The Weed Watchers Program is a State of NH Dept of Environmental Services (DES) program to monitor lakes for aquatic invasive weeds and animals, help identify them, present their spread and coordinate their eradication.
WHAT WEED WATCHERS DO
Volunteer Weed Watchers check assigned sections of the lake monthly from June to September from a kayak, canoe or swimming. They may also assist lake-goers with questions about aquatic invasive weeds/animals and bag samples for testing at state labs.
WHAT PEOPLE CAN DO FROM SHORE OR DOCK
Lake residents can watch for aquatic invasive weeds and animals along their shorelines and report items of concern to Weed Watch team members. Photos identifying invasive species are online or at the Lake Armington boat launch.

The Water Quality Testing Program is part of the NH Volunteer Lake Assessment Program (VLAP) with the NH Dept of Environmental Services (DES).
WHAT WATER QUALITY TESTERS DO Volunteers test for water transparency with a Secchi disk and view scope and quality by taking water samples at specific sites around the lake in June, July and August. They transport the water samples to the state lab for processing.
Results are reported back to the Lake Armington team who presents them at a summer lake association meeting and through Water Quality Reports posted on this website.
Lake Armington has consistently tested in the top 2% cleanest lakes in the state.
